A diamond certification is provided by an independent gemology lab. This offers an objective perspective on a diamond’s unique characteristics across the ‘4 Cs’ of cut, colour, clarity, and carat. A diamond certificate provides proof that a diamond has been graded with an expert opinion on its quality.
We recommend that any customer buying a laboratory grown diamond ensures that it comes with a recognised and respected diamond grading certificate. This documentation includes all the vital information about the diamond, not only the 4Cs, but also the polish, symmetry, fluorescence and the proportions of the diamond.
Although diamond grading certificates for lab grown diamonds are relatively new in comparison to their natural counterparts, there are several reputable diamond certification organisations around the world that certify both natural and lab grown diamonds. All LG.D diamonds are certified by the world’s leading gem grading laboratories, the International Gemological Institute (IGI) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
Any lab-grown diamond that has not been certified will not have undergone any tests or grading so cannot be guaranteed as truly authentic.

GIA is known as the international standard for mined diamonds, while IGI is quickly becoming the standard for lab grown diamonds. While IGI offers both digital and hard copy certificates, GIA will only provide a digital certificate for laboratory grown diamonds.
If you encounter a lab grown diamond with a certificate that has not been issued by IGI or GIA, proceed with caution. There are many diamond certificates that have not been issued by reputable organisations, so always make sure you use a trusted jeweller to not only give you the best advice and a great shopping experience, but also provide official documentation to properly certify your purchase.
